Hi, I’m Dr Wendy Sweet, Women’s Healthy Ageing researcher and Founder of My Menopause Transformation. If you’re struggling to understand your symptoms or your weight gain in menopause, then would you let me help you?

I’ll tell you why. For the past few years, I’ve been looking into menopause and our healthy ageing for my doctoral studies. When my own symptoms frustrated me despite being on HRT and taking endless supplements, and I was putting on lots of weight too, I felt hopeless and confused as to why. That’s when I knew I had to use my knowledge and experience to look deeper into this. For over 30 years, I’ve worked in and around the fitness industry and I’ve taught university level nutrition, sports science, physiology and hormonal health. I was also a former nurse. Yet, despite all this background, I was at a loss as to why my body, moods and motivation was changing so fast. When I spoke to women for my studies, many of whom were exercising daily, they were telling me similar stories too.

So, I tackled menopause. Our lives are so different from our mother’s and I discovered that as we transition this stage of life, experiencing insomnia, sore joints, hot flushes and weight gain, no longer has to be ‘our lot’ in life. We also don’t need the endless medications, supplements and other ‘remedies’ that are marketed to us at this time of life. When we lose oestrogen, this affects other areas around our body, so we have to understand what to do to accommodate ALL of the effects of the changes in our reproductive hormones around our body. This is what I have looked into for all of us! 

For years menopause has been treated as a sickness, but I found out that our changing hormones are all part of our natural ageing, so we have to change our daily routines, nutrition and even our exercise to accommodate these changes. This is because there are numerous structural changes that occur in our muscles, liver and fat cells as we go through menopause. If we don’t change how we manage ourselves, then we don’t sleep, our joints become sore and for many women they become depressed, hotter than normal and their heart health begins to change, especially if they put on weight.
